Centuries ago, wisdom teeth might have been useful to humans because of abrasive diets that wore their other teeth down. Today, wisdom teeth don’t often fit in our mouths anymore, and they frequently cause dental problems.
Some of the problems that can occur with wisdom teeth coming in are pain, tooth decay, cysts, tumors, gum disease, or damage to other teeth. Dr. Lee will take x-rays and perform an exam before making a final decision about wisdom teeth removal.
Many people have more obvious problems with wisdom teeth that have already come in. Some experience decay over a period of time, and others have teeth that start to shift and crowd together because of a wisdom tooth. The QTL Dental team is ready to handle your wisdom teeth situation!
We will make you as comfortable as possible during your treatment. We offer several different types of sedation to help your procedure run smoothly, including oral conscious sedation.
During your extraction, we will be as efficient and as quick as possible. As soon as we are done, we will prepare you for your trip home with gauze and prescriptions for any pain medications you might need. You will need to ask a family member or friend to drive you to and from your appointment.
After the surgery, you will want to rest for the following 24 hours. Drink lots of water and avoid caffeine and alcohol. Don’t plan on participating in any rigorous activities for a few days, because that might cause your mouth to bleed again. Call us if you have any questions about your care.
We want to help you take care of your wisdom teeth before they become a problem. If you are concerned about those extra teeth, call us for a consultation. Don’t put off treatment! We want you to have a healthy, happy mouth!
